I am interested in exploring the thoughts of people from the past, especially those from the Spanish-speaking world, as conveyed through literature. The texts they left behind allow us to connect not only with those individuals but also with the cultural values, social structures, and historical contexts of their time. I have a strong interest in texts that reflect the cultural encounters between the Iberian peoples and other cultures around the world in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which led to profound shifts in identity, faith, and knowledge. By studying these exchanges, we can gain a deeper understanding of our present and work toward shaping a better future.

In the spring semester, we will read and discuss texts or academic papers in Spanish on selected topics related to literature, religion and thought in the Spanish-speaking countries. In the fall semester, students will also present and discuss their graduation theses or seminar papers.
