I aim to try to turn my classroom into a space where students can discuss ideas and collaborate on creative projects. Often the creative projets are very playful and may seem quite child-like at first, but gradually they always lead us into discussions about important issues: the environment, democracy, freedom, fairness in society and consideration of our responsibilitiees towards other people.

Film Production, Creativity Studies, Art and Regional Revitalization, Sado Island Studies

John Williams teaches classes in Film Production, European Cinema, Creativity and Imagination and Translation (of Japanese poetry into English).

My Seminar is a completely practical class in which students write and direct a Graduation Thesis Film. (Usually the films are between 10 and 20 mins long and in the past several students have had their films shown at international film festivals and won awards.) Students develop a story (usually from existing material such as a short story in English) and adapt it into a Japanese language film with subtitles in English. The class reproduces the actual flow of work of film production in the real world and students work as crew on each others' films.
